An explorative trip to the City of Contrasts

A short trip during the summer vacation definitely is something that energizes your mind and fills it with some positive power. This vacation, being the longest in the history of my school life, we made a week long trip to Delhi. Despite burning at 46 degrees, I could enjoy Delhi in all its beauty. The sun was overhead and it felt like standing inside an oven, there was dust and the air wasn’t as clean as it is back here. But Delhi was a fun and enlightening place to be in.                                   To experience the history that I’ve only learnt in textbooks was something that made my heart leap in joy. To walk past those same buildings and streets through which the Mughals and the rulers of the Sultanate walked past, literally gave me goosebumps. Many a times I wished I lived in those glorious times. Well, yes, the world is much better now, but you know- just to know how it might have be...

Being a Leader

Image
I thought being a leader was simple. But I was badly mistaken.Being a leader is no simple deal. And I learnt that just a few days back after taking up my first serious role as a leader.                              Last Sunday was the swearing in ceremony of the newly elected state leaders of Akhila Kerala Balajana Sakhyam-Asia's largest children's organization. It is an organization started way back in 1929 under the mentorship of Malayala Manorama and has a membership of more than 4 lakh children. It has a 4-tier federation system starting from the unit to the union to the zone and then the state. We conduct classes, seminars and camps for the members and the children in turn carry out many social service schemes like helping children from underprivileged backgrounds, conducting medical camps, building homes for the poor,visit...

Let's all be Mowglis!

When I walk out of a theatre after watching a movie,it is very rarely that I have a wonderful feeling of happiness and fulfillment intertwined with each other. And after such a long time Jungle Book brought back that sensation.Jungle Book was no doubt the best movie I had seen in quite a long time. The theatre literally transformed into a jungle where I saw Mowgli with his manly tricks and his wild friends up so close that I felt that I was one among them too. Everything seemed so real.                    The graphical animals could connect with the audience through their emotions better than  human actors, in any random movie. The farewell scene between Mowgli and his wolf mother Raksha did make me cry. Baloo and his bare necessities made me happy from within. Bagheera's presence made me comfortable. And don't forget Shere Khan;he did make me rage for revenge!                     ...
I do not exactly know why I was thinking about 3 Idiots. The film conveys the importance of pursuing your dreams besides being a complete Bollywood entertainer.Well,I thought I would blog about that because what the film speaks about, has virtually turned into a dreadful reality.Looks like we're bumping into a doctor or an engineer or an IT professional every other minute(at least in India).Have all the others vanished into thin air?Our singers, photographers ,sportsmen and the likes have been sidelined.Have educated India become so insane as to believe that the medical and the technical professions are the only sane and lucrative ones?                                 Well,it is time we look ahead. The world gives you a myriad of possibilities. You only need to keep your senses alive.Staying safe and out of risks are no more the norms,if that's what you're up to.There's no use staying in one corner of your c...

Our painting Group Show-'Pathangam'

Image
The kites are a sure treat for your eyes. Spongebobs,Chotta bheem, the cricket world cup logo, birds and butterflies in black, blue, yellow, orange and other colours you can think of with their white satin tails dancing to the whistles and trebles of the breeze. As you walk further on through the dark corridors of the monstrous house built in the 19th century,a young girl clad in a yellow frock standing beside gunmen in brown and black and a boy, drained by the woes of life with an impoverished dog disturbs you.And yes,a pair of legs wearing anklets, garbed in black rags, chained to a corner awaits you inside the cell.Towards the end, a drawing of Kathakali, Jack Sparrow and a young boy in tears all drawn with oil pastels makes you wonder about the innumerable possibilities of art.                          The art exhibition organised by the TINT Academy for Art(where I go for art classes) by 135 Artists here in Trivandrum was o...

The Sound of Drones and Shells...

Image
The sound of the drones and shells and mortars have made the world numb.Indeed numb.We thought they were aberrations..First Palestine then Syria,Iraq and now Yemen. They no more are aberrations. They seem more to be the customary song that every man has to wake up with. There's no use trying to comfort yourself saying that it has happened in some far corner of the world, some far corner that it does not affect you in any manner. The rivalry.the cries of pain and the grievances have no geographical bounds. Then why differ? Why fight in the name of religion? Why make people suffer? Why be the cause of their pain? You may be able to answer the before me.But not before God.Never will you be.Never.....

Oh, Vacation time Here Again!

School has closed a few days before and yes! It's vacation time!Well,I've charted quite a few plans.Join the football academy here in Trivandrum, learn Spanish, read quite a few books, visit Hyderabad(don't know how much that's gonna work out!).And yeah,It's exhibition fever at my art school and we're all running helter-skelter to complete our works! It's at the Thanjavore Ammaveedu at West Fort.Quite an interesting and mysterious place where Maharajah Swati Tirunal's consort used to stay.Seems that after his death she grew mad and was locked up in a cell inside the buliding.I've not yet seen the place but being a history buff I just can't help holding my heart back! I can hear the voices  of boys playing near my house.Yeah! It's vacation time!!!!

Club Activities and Learning

The continuous comprehensive evaluation(CCE) and the club activities at our school remind us that academics isn't all.   As unique creatures created by GOD ,rather than mass manufactured products,it gives us opportunities to spread out our wings and master our talents; to perfect ourselves.    This year's club activities witnessed a number of productive programmes conducted every month for students from class VIII to X.The various clubs and their co-ordinators have done their best to make effective use of the limited time available.  The clubs also participated in the cleaning campaign organised in October ,for cleaning the school premises. The different clubs put in their best efforts to make their alloted areas look the best.   Along with the support of members from other clubs, the social  service club paid  a visit to an orphanage.A group of 25 students along with teachers were involved in this.A sense of social responsibility has been...

Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation

I am studying in a CBSE school.  Last year onwards we started having the new method of teaching-CCE method-Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation. This is a method of teaching giving  importance to projects and other extra curricular activities.      In our school we have a CCE period. Different teachers take different subjects like maths, science, home science, music, art, dramatics, quiz and so on and so forth. In my class the CCE subject was maths. We all thought it will be a really boring one and we couldn't imagine! The first CCE starting with maths! What a dreadful thing,we thought. But it was really interesting. We learnt about the Napiers bones system of  multiplication, pascals triangle and a wonderful maths puzzle. We were rather competitive in doing these problems but this added colour to our first CCE.     Our next one was craft in which we were asked to make a beautiful flower and any other craft items also.My flower was O...

OUR FAREWELL

On the 18th of February 2010,the 4th standard had a farewell party as we were leaving the primary classes.I was very excited on that particular day. Most of us used a handbag because there were no studies. The only things I carried were some snacks,a bottle of water,my rough book and my diary. Many asked me why I brought this handbag of my mother and my reply was today's specialty-OUR FAREWELL! I talked with some of my friends and prayed for the time to pass quickly.I was selected for a speech there at our chapel ,explaining my experiences in the primary classes. Finally when the bell rang we ran up to the chapel. When we reached the chapel,we removed our shoes and kept it outside the open space. The chaplain was already waiting for us but our principal was not there. So the chaplain taught...

On that Rainy Day

It was on the 3 rd of October. The day when the 2010 Delhi commonwealth games started. We didn’t have a television, so we went to my cousin’s house to see the opening ceremony of the commonwealth games. It was raining heavily outside the car but we ignored it.Still the rain grew heavier.Thank God we had an umbrella. As soon as we reached my cousin’s house ,the electricity went off!. What a badluck! We got into the house and after some time the current came but went again. This is called ‘Thalelezhuthu’. I didn’t have the luck to see the opening ceremony so we went back to our house. The way back to our house was studded with water. It really had the effect of flood. The water was upto the upper part of the car’s tyre. I saw smoke coming out from a bike. The bike was almost drowned. A boy showed his palm towards us and I was even more scared. My mother asked so many people if this car would go through the water. But no reply from them. My heart really jumped out from my ribs!. But ...

I went to explore South Tamil Nadu on a one day trip with my parents, aunt, uncle and my cousin in their car.It was on the 30 th of May.The next day our school was going to reopen.I didn't go anywhere for the whole summer vacation,so we thought we will at least go on that Sunday . Well, we started our journey. We took the -nagercoil route which was easy for us.Our first trip was to the Padmanabhapuram palace in Kanyakumari district. This was the kingdom of the royal Tiruvitamkur family. It was the best palace I've ever gone.Large, with so much space.A malayalam film 'manichitrathazhu's shooting took place here.We thought the ' Verandah' of this palace was made up of original marble. But it was made up of lime, eggs, cowdung, mehendi and eggshells. The effect was even better than marble. The carvings on wood were perfect. Not even a mistake was there. The king's bed was marvelous. The carvings on this bed was perfect.Well,no one can bre...

Birth Day party

My birth day was on 5 th October but my birthday party was on 6 th October. I had my birthday party with two great people from England-Sir Michael Rawlins and Dr.Kalipso Chalkidou. They are the chairman and director of NICE. Dr. Kalipso is fromGreece. They came to Kerala for a conference. I had my birthday party in Uday samudra Kovalam. My cousin also came for the party. We talked with them for a long time sitting in the restaurant. We gave them a present – a model of a nice elephant. They also gave a birthday present for me- it was a coin collection. It was a collection of fifty rare coins of the world. I thanked them a lot for the present. Then we talked about the culture of India, London and Greece. They were really surprised when we said about India. Dr. kalipso’ s house was just near the birth place of Alexander the great. She could see his birth place through the window. Sir Michael Rawlins was little bit sad because his country fought against India and Greeks a...

She congratulated me she then passed the news paper to so many teachers. Then some how it got in my headmistress ’ s hands. After some time my class teacher told me that my headmistress called me. Then we went to the Shore temple. It is situated near a beach.Once it was gone when the Tsunami rose. This temple is also 2000 years old.It is also a stone work. Then we went to krishna's butter bowl. Some people know that krishna likes butter. This is a very very big rock & it is placed on a hill.We were surprised. It was very big in its back& its front was small. After seeing this all we had a big journey back to Mylapore in Madras. It was a 2 hour journey. I liked the way to Mahabalipuram very much.
