Bathroom Stories!

A short and unplanned tour after days of busy schedules and hectic workloads is always a solace for the mind.Breathing in the new air, discovering new places and meeting new people is something that I'm very much inclined to.And these journeys have only enriched my experiences on that frontier. That's the best part. But when it comes to answering nature's calls, these trips seems to have only given me anguish!
Yesterday Valiyappicha,Vallumicha,Haju, Alifikka and I decided to visit Wagamon,a hill station in Idukki,a few hours from my native place at Kollam. We started from home at about half past six in the morning in our car and spent the major portion of our first hour in pensive silence. As we went past the plains and began climbing the hill ranges we were all overcome with hunger. We got off before a huge hoarding that read Hotel Aaryas and happily strolled towards the restaurant. After a tasty breakfast of Dosa and Sambhar, we all resolved to use the washroom in the restaurant though none of us were in any urgency, owing to a fear that we might not be able to find a usable washroom anywhere in the vicinity of Wagamon.
However to our dismay, the bathroom was not just smelly but it did not also have a lock-neither at the front of the door nor at the back. And the two bathrooms which did have a lock were locked and sealed from outside.Of the two bathrooms that were indeed open, one did not have running water. So we were left without any choice but to use the other bathroom which was filthy and  had nothing but a small screw protruding out of the front side of the door. While one person used the bathroom, the other two would somehow manage to grasp the screw to hold the door tight which was a daunting task since the screw often slipped from our fingers as it was so small !
The three of us Vallumicha,Haju and I somehow managed to use the bathroom in turns with one person using it and the other two taking guards. While we were about to leave the washroom area, two women who spoke a different language, either friends or sisters came in and just randomly occupied the two bathrooms that were open;both simultaneously, without even the slightest hint of reluctance (Remember that the bathrooms had no locks). Now if a third person comes in ,she wouldn't notice anyone inside the bathroom since they aren't locked and hence would just push the doors open in ignorance. The three of us walked out of the washroom laughing at the mere possibility and hoping that nothing of the sort happens.
At around eleven in the morning we reached Wagamon after an extremely beautiful journey climbing 1,100 metres above the sea level in complete view of the Western Ghats dressed up in all its majesty.Since it had been the Pooja holidays, the crowd that came to visit the place was unbearable which destroyed the peace and serenity of the place.Instead of getting down at the Wagamon meadows,we instead went straight to the Pine valley,5 kilometres further ahead. As we returned from Pine Valley,I was overcome by an urgent desire to pee. However,we could spot no toilets nor hotels near the vicinity and the traffic block due to the rush slowed down our pursuit of finding a toilet. At last when we found a group of buildings that resembled a hotel,we parked our car inside and asked the receptionist whether they had a restaurant to which he answered that they only provided room service. When we asked for a room for just half an hour so that we could refresh ourselves he charged us a thousand rupees.I backed out at that.
We resumed our journey in search of a toilet. But it took us another twenty minutes that seemed to me like an hour, to find a restaurant, due to the slow moving traffic. All through the road,I could find men hiding themselves behind bushes, answering nature's call. For a second,I wished so badly that I was born a man.I felt like crying out loud.Such was intensity of my impulse! And when finally, thank God, we managed to find a restaurant,I rushed to the bathroom and relieved myself. That was one of the best feelings of satisfaction that I've ever had!
After having our lunch from the same restaurant we decided to leave Wagamon for Adoor to watch Mohanlal's blockbuster Pulimurugan. At around half past four in the evening,we reached the theatre where the film was running. It took us around 3 hours to reach the theatre after leaving Wagamon and hence all of us decided to use the washroom of the theatre to ease ourselves before the movie began. The last time,I guess, somebody used that toilet would have been in 1947!It looked so huge, old and dark inside that we were scared to use the bathroom. Not even a small bulb was provided anywhere nearby. If one opens the door to the washroom one can only find tens of tiny cabins with nothing but the foot rest of an Indian closet. One had to walk further ahead to find an extremely dark room which had a proper toilet. My cousin haju, who used the toilet first, locked the first door of the washroom thinking that it was the actual toilet area. When I used it, I asked Haju to stand inside the first doorway because I was too scared to be alone in that extremely dark and huge room. After I used the toilet,Haju said she wanted to use it once more since the first time she used it she was scared because she was totally alone and hence was in a rush! After she used the washroom at ease, the two of us walked out of that ghost shack and exclaimed that the washroom in Aryas that we used in the morning was a palace compared to this haunted bathroom!
At half past eight,as soon as the film got over ,we left for  home. As I entered the familiar neat and tidy bathroom of our home,I felt a joy like no other. It seemed to me as if I were in heaven.Well, not literally,of course!
